USPS Clam Bake!

Bob, Dad & Mom

It's been awhile since I've posted. This past weekend, Mom & Dad made their annual boating trip to join Bob & I at the Berea Power Squadron Clam Bake. We enjoyed a great day with them, and all our new friends in the Power Squadron.

This is going to be a "short work week" for me. HOORAY!!! Michell and I were supposed to leave for The Rock Boat cruise on Wednesday; however, since the cruise has been cancelled, I'm heading to my parents' house Wednesday night to spend some time with them and grandma. I'm excited!

Tomorrow (Tuesday) is supposed to be my annual review with Bobby. Hopefully I'll have some answers as to what's going to happen with my job. It has become very stressful lately. I'm essentially doing the job of two people! Hopefully something good comes from tomorrow.

The Indians are in the Hunt for October! It's been very exciting!! These next few games should be very interesting. Bob & I are going tomorrow night with the Power Squadron group. It'll be a lot of fun! :-)

Life's so precious!

Yesterday morning I went to work and learned some very sad news. Melissa's parents were in a car accident Tuesday night and her mother passed away and her father is in critical condition at Akron General Hospital. Melissa is one of my very good friends at work. Her, Crystal and I work out daily at lunch. Not only do we coach each other in our constant battle of whether or not to work out... but, we coach each other in life as well... telling each other not to stress out, to take things one day at a time, and to encourage each other to be the best we can be.

I truly love the friendship that I have found in the two of them!

But, just like that... your whole life is changed! I can't even imagine that.

Crystal and I went to see Melissa and her husband, Dave, at the hospital yesterday to give them our support.

I had the pleasure of meeting Melissa's parents (Steve and Diane) at CIC's golf outing this year. Her father and uncle purchased a team, and her mom and aunt came for dinner the night before and the post-golf cocktail dinner party. What wonderful people! Melissa has a unique laugh... and she definitely got it from her mom. I also was able to have lunch with them a few weeks back at the Terrace Club.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Melissa & Dave and her family.

Moment to breathe....

Well, my weekend from hell is over! BUT... the best part is that we exceeded our goal!! We raised $105,000 towards the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund! :-) (So, I guess working 60+ hours over the 4 days was worth it!)

So, now that the collection is over, hopefully things will settle down at work. I just need to get through the month of September and then my calendar clears up nicely.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my extra vacation days (since the Rock Boat cruise was cancelled). And, Bobby is going to give me a couple extra days because I worked so much over the past few days... which is really nice!!

Our trip to Put-in-Bay has been cancelled for this weekend. (I'm seeing a pattern with me and boat trips... LOL!!) So, we're heading to the boat Thursday night and then going to the Cedar Point boat show on Friday. It'll be fun.

I won 2 tickets to the QLounge concert and meet-n-greet with Josh Kelley tomorrow night! So excited!!! Bob and I are going to go and we'll probably end up going to his concert at the Odeon later that night. I got a BOGO coupon in an e-mail today. You can't beat two tickets for $15! :-)

Well... it's late and I'm tired and I NEED to get up and go to Curves in the morning! Goodnight...

Running on E!

It's after midnight. I've been up since 3:30am!! Why am I still up?? I have no idea!!!

This weekend at all the Indians game, we are collecting donations for the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Efforts. I woke up at 3:30am and was in to work by 4:30am the past two mornings. Last night I left work around 8pm and tonight I left around 11pm. I'll be back around 3:30pm on Saturday and again around 5:30pm on Sunday. It's crazy!! I don't even think I know my own name anymore. Geez!

My bed is calling me now. I think I will go sleep. My body doesn't know what sleep is anymore. It's been NON-STOP for the past 6 weeks! I can't get anything done at home and even though I'm working all kinds of hours at work, I don't seem to be making any progress there either. UGH!! I NEED a vacation!! (Too bad the cruise was cancelled!!!) BUT... I AM taking off next Friday and Bob and I are headed to Put-in-Bay for Thursday and Friday nights (and I'll be coming back Saturday morning, because... yep, you guessed it... I have to work at Saturday night's game). So, I'll at least get a small "vacation".

PERFECT WEEKEND!!!

What an absolutely wonderful weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday night, Bob and I took the boat over to Marina Del Isle to see Jennie & Shawn and Andy. We had dinner with them and then I went to bed early. I was totally exhausted from the busy week at work. Saturday morning, we got up early and walked to breakfast with Jennie & Shawn. After breakfast, it was off to the "Anchor Out" with the Berea Power Squadron in Sandusky Bay! We had an AWESOME time!! I was a little worried about how I'd handle anchoring out and the bobbing up and down in the water. But, I'm happy to say that I didn't have to wear my sea-sickness wristbands once! (Here's a photo of me swimming in the Bay!)

We arrived around noon on Saturday and ate a late afternoon lunch of cheese & crackers and other finger foods. There were 12 boats anchored together. (More photos coming soon!) We went for a swim around 4pm. The water was nice... once you got used to the cold. Almost everyone went swimming. Later that evening, we had a buffet line going on two different boats for dinner. It was great! Everyone hung out after dinner and retired for bed around 11pm... although some stayed up into the wee hours of the morning! Saturday night the wind shifted and began tossing the boats around, and the water made lots of noise against the hull of the boat. I wasn't too happy about that... but soon I was asleep and not worrying about it.

We got up around 9am on Sunday for coffee and pastries. Slowly, one by one the boats began to leave before lunch and we skillfully untied the boat and brought the other boats back together to form a line..... until finally it was Bob & I and Dave & Eileen Rickard. We spent most of the afternoon on their sail boat, just bobbing along and chatting about the Power Squadron. I told them that I've never been sailing and so they invited us back to their marine to spend the night and to go out sailing on Monday --- if the wind cooperated!

Unfortunately, there wasn't enough wind this morning to take their boat out for a sail... but, the trip wasn't for nothing. We might have found a new marina --- Dock of the Bay Marina in Sandusky! It's a beautiful marina with beautiful views of the bay. We're weighing the pros and cons of moving there next year.

After a 45 minute boat trip back to our marina in Port Clinton, we packed up and headed for home for a quick change and then off to Bob's parents' house for his mom's birthday party!

It was certainly an action-packed weekend... but, an extremely enjoyable one!!! I definitely needed the R&R and the good conversation with good company. This week is shaping up to be an extremely busy one too! 9am meeting Tuesday morning, 5am radio remotes at Jacobs Field on Thursday and Friday, games on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights (all of which are for the Indians collection days for the American Red Cross), plus Power Squadron meeting tomorrow night and my normal 9-5 days this week. Ugh!!! September has only begun....

AND... we received an e-mail over the weekend that The Rock Boat has been CANCELLED!!!! Carnival is giving our ship to the US government for the next 6 months to house evacuees. (Wonderful that they're offering the ships to be used in such a way... not so good for us, but helping those people out is way more important)! So, we'll be receiving a full refund for the cruise part. I'm still working on the airfare part.

Now, I have 10 vacation days to use before the end of the year... any suggestions!!?!?!?!?!?!

Hurricane Katrina

This has been an emotional week... constantly watching the TV news coverage or listening to the radio reports going to and from work about the hurricane... the devastation is unbelievable!

Still no word about The Rock Boat cruise. Obviously, we aren't leaving from NOLA. I'd almost rather have them cancel the whole cruise. It's going to be "weird" to go on the cruise, knowing we should have left from NOLA and thinking about the reason why we didn't. But, that's just my opinion. Reading the message board, people are still looking forward to the cruise.

The Indians will be announcing tomorrow that the organization intends to raise $150,000 for the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund through contributions from the players, front office staff and the fans. JC and I were given "ownership" of the project at 2:30pm on Wednesday by Dennis (Executive VP) and we worked out the details by 7:30pm last night..... and we continued to work on it today. It will be awesome if we can raise more than our projected amount.

Bob and I are headed to the boat this weekend. We're going to the Anchor Out with the Berea Power Squadron on Saturday. It should be fun! :-)

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday weekend! (Can you believe it's Labor Day already!?!?!?)
